Stop Sterilization Abuse!
Sterilization abuse is a serious, ongoing issue in the United States. Last year Dawn Wooten risked her life and career by telling the truth about sterilization abuse at an ICE (Immigration and Custom Enforcement) detention center in Georgia. She was fired from her job.

Dawn Wooten, LPN, known as the “ICE Whistleblower,” is committed to ensuring the health and safety of women who are in government custody and to educating women on how to protect themselves from medical abuses. A single mother of five, she lives in rural Georgia and is pursuing her nursing degree as an RN/BSN.

Loretta Ross, visiting associate professor of the study of women and gender, was sterilized when she was 23 years old.

Moderated by Carrie Baker, professor of the study of women and gender.

Cosponsored by the Smith College Program for the Study of Women and Gender; Amherst College: American Studies; Black Studies; Center, Health and Science; Anthropology & Sociology; Sexuality, Women’s and Gender Studies.
